Welding Classes

In our welding certification classes students learn to Mig and Stick weld structural steel and pipe. Welding certifications can be earned through the American Welding Society and the American Petroleum Institute.

Short-circuit transfer, globular transfer, and spray transfer Gas Metal Arc Welding (Mig) techniques will be demonstrated, explored, and practiced. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) welding education will explore the use of 6010 and 7018 electrodes in the flat, vertical uphill, and overhead positions. Students learn to weld, cut, and perform brazing using an oxy-acetylene set-up. Plasma-cutting is also explored.

Students progress through the structural steel welding certifications upon mastery of each position in structural steel and if time allows, pipe welding. Students can take this course numerous times to obtain needed certifications and to explore all processes completely.

Additional classes in Tig welding are also offered. In these classes students will learn how to weld mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium using traditional Gas Tungsten Arc Welding techniques and pulse welding applications. Tig welding is a super clean welding process that produces little smoke and the deepest penetration with minimal sparks. Students will learn to use both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) welding electricity.

In pipe welding, advanced welding students learn how to weld 2" to 6"+ pipe to the American Petroleum Institute standard, performing welds in the 5G and 6G positions. Butt joints and branch-Tee joints are welded and tested to earn certification status. Pipe welding class is for students who have earned welding certifications in structural steel or who are also enrolled in the TIG or structural steel class.
